About Adam Mickiewicz University

Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan is the major academic institution in Poznan and one of the top Polish universities. AMU is one of the leading academic centers in Poland.

The university was founded at the year 1919. More than 50,000 students are studying at AMU, including 1300 doctoral students and about 1000 international students. Its reputation is founded on tradition, the outstanding achievements of the faculty and the attractive curriculum offered to students. AMU’s academic staff includes about 2800 members.

The University gathers one third of Poznan’s academic staff and nearly half of Poznan’s higher education students. With its versatile curriculum, it fulfils well its remit of ‘Universitas Magistrorum et Scholarum’. In recent years the education on offer has become increasingly diverse. As social and economic conditions change, new courses and specializations are being provided to meet the needs of both the University itself and the environment where it operates. New educational projects include: integrated studies in humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and programs carried out in cooperation with other institutions both in Poland and abroad.

Academic staff

Adam Mickiewicz University is the joy and pride of nearly 2,800 academics, including 335 tenured professors, 514 AMU professors and 1,622 doctors and senior lecturers, as well as nearly 50,000 students of full-time and extramural studies. AMU is comprised of 15 faculties (including one in Kalisz), Collegium Polonicum in Słubice, Collegium Europaeum Gnesnense in Gniezno, and other external departments – in Koscian, Wagrowiec, Srem, Ostrów Wielkopolski and Piła. The Faculty of Theology, based in Poznan, has its branches in the towns of Bydgoszcz, Gniezno, Kalisz, Kazimierz Biskupi, Obra and Wronki. The 15 faculties and other departments offer 47 courses. Students may choose between 180 possible professional specialisations.

Doctoral English studies for International students

AMU Research Seminars is a program of courses tailor-made for graduate students aiming at improving their research skills and planning to obtain Ph. D. level qualifications at AMU.

The three-year long AMU Research Seminars program targets candidates from abroad who wish to pursue their study programs in English on the basis of the blended model approach, whereby most tutorials and student – professor relations are held via means of distance learning and e-mail, with three one-week intensive lecture/seminar blocks throughout the program.

With a view to assuring high quality of instruction the courses are constantly monitored for quality and candidate satisfaction.

AMU Research Seminars Program is pursued at the following AMU faculties: Faculty of Educational Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Political Science and Journalism, Faculty of Polish and Classical Studies, Faculty of History, Faculty of Law and Administration, Faculty of Modern Languages and Literatures, Faculty of English Studies, etc. The Faculties offer a broad range of research areas and a selection of scholars that have been actively engaged in research in these areas.

University infrastructure
The University’s teaching and research facilities include: 193,767 sq. meters of classrooms, lecture rooms and laboratories. 1,694 seats available in libraries which encompass a total of 4 million volumes, not including magazines and electronic archives. 2,000 computers made available to students.

The library has a large collection of printed materials and an extensive electronic online system. The printed collection includes about 4million volumes of books and periodicals, as well as newspapers, maps and other documents.
